Cynical billionaire Daniel Moretti works hard, plays harder, and has one ironclad rule. Never trust a woman. Bad news for historian Charlotte Doherty who shows up at exactly the wrong time. Like every other woman in Daniel's life, Charlotte wants something from him–the deed to her family farm. Daniel agrees, but only if he gets something in return: Charlotte's company for the weekend!

The property is Charlotte's only link to the mother she never knew. Desperate to keep her history alive, she'll accept Daniel's indecent proposal, but not without a few terms of her own. Namely, a propriety clause. No flirting. No kissing. No sex.

Daniel has no intention of honoring her conditions, but after one weekend with Charlotte leaves him hungering for more, he can't help wondering if she could be the exception to his unbreakable rule…

I'm 50/50 with liking this book. I liked the hero of the story. Daniel was a lonely, flawed individual who had been burned one too many times by people who only wanted him for what he could give. He covered up his feelings with arrogance and by being aloof. He tried very hard not to let anyone see the man beyond the mask he was hiding behind.

Charlotte, the heroine, was also a good character. I liked that she was a history professor and independent. I'm so tired of stories with wimpy female leads. It's encouraging that I'm finding more books lately with strong women. Anyway, Charlotte's estranged brother had sold the farm left to them by their aunt when she died. He did so without notifying Charlotte until the deed had been done. Of course this unsettles Charlotte because she sees the farm as the only connection she has to her legacy. Her mother had run off and left Charlotte and her brother behind when they were young. Charlotte feels by keeping the farm she keeps some part of her mother with her. This leads Charlotte into seeking out the person who bought the farm to try to buy it back. Of course the person who bought her aunt's farm is our hero Daniel.

Daniel has family problems of his own. He has a mother who is only interested in him because his wealth attracts publicity. He has a step-father who is eager to please his mother at almost any cost, and he has a step-brother who is coddled by his mother often at Daniel's expense. His mother and step-father are preparing for their 25th wedding anniversary on Nantucket Island. Daniel just broke things off with his famous girlfriend when he finds she has been cheating on him. This leaves him in need of a date to help take the attention off himself while he is visiting his family. This is where Charlotte comes in asking to purchase her farm back. Daniel strikes a deal with her that if Charlotte accompanies him to his family's party he will then sell it back to her.

The story has some wonderful moments of humorous dialogue between the lead characters and with Charlotte's best friend. They establish an easy rapport. You can feel they just may be developing a friendship.

Daniel and Charlotte go to the weekend party and pretty quickly develop feelings for each other over the period of approximately two days. This is where things start to fall apart for me. I don't mind attraction developing quickly between characters, but it needs to be believeable. Daniel does an about face in record time from being totally untrusting to feeling something deep for Charlotte. Something happens after their shared night of passion that drives them apart, not telling you in case you decide to read the book. There is a confrontation between Daniel and Charlotte after this point that makes it seem like there had been more to the relationship than just a couple days together and one night of sex. I couldn't figure out why either would bother if Daniel could flip his switch so quickly from thinking Charlotte was the one for him to she was just like all the others who used him.

There just wasn't enough foundation to the relationship between Daniel and Charlotte to make me really care too much about them. The story had some promising moments, and some terrific dialogue at different points. I did like the scenes plotted out in both the antique shop and the cafe. More moments like this, and a few more dates other than the one weekend, would have added a great deal to this story to make it much more interesting. I would have liked to see more development of the characters as well as seen more length to the book. I feel this is what was lacking to make the story shine. I feel the book needed a few more chapters and maybe a really great epilogue. If the story had more meat to it I'm sure I would have added at least one more star.

Light and easy read
By DiDi - Guilty Pleasures BR
3.5 Stars

Weekend Agreement is a light and easy read for an afternoon of romance. Charlotte Doherty is a history professor who seeks out Daniel Moretti to buy back her mother's family farm that was sold without her knowledge. Daniel Moretti is a billionaire businessman that doesn't trust women and sees Professor Charlotte Doherty as just another person who wants something from him. Daniel sees this as a perfect opportunity to get something out of this for himself, with Charlotte so desperate to get her farm back. Daniel proposes that she accompany him to his parent's anniversary party in Nantucket, and she can buy back the farm at the buying price. Desperate and seeing no other way she agrees to this and stipulates a propriety clause. If it becomes anything but a business agreement then she gets the farm free and clear.

What I liked about this story is watching for the crack in the stringent veneer of the hero Daniel. He doesn't trust women but he sees something is different in Charlotte and he starts to waver. That is when I begin to get drawn into a story when the soft vulnerable side starts to get exposed. Charlotte sees glimpses of those moments and tries to see the man drop the walls he's built up from fear of getting hurt. There is a lot of give and take between Charlotte and Daniel until they both see clearly what they want from each other. I like this story because it gave me just enough of conflict, resolution and romance to see that they can be a good match for each other and believe that they are both in love with the real person.

Didn't want it to end!
By Laura Kaye
I really enjoyed this book and couldn't put it down! The premise is sexy, the hero was deliciously alpha and tortured, the chemistry between the hero and heroine was off the charts, and the heroine was smart and strong. All the qualities I love in a book. I especially loved the glimpses into the hero's pain and sadness--it made me really route for the heroine to break him down and open him up, and give him the love he deserved (since his family were all such asses! LOL). Can't say enough about this book--just buy it, read, and enjoy!
