Hi, readers! During my first year of college, I volunteered one night a week in the women's section of Cook County Jail in Chicago. As long as I live, I will never forget the women I met there and the ways they struggled to cope with incarceration. As I researched Three Nights Before Christmas, those women's stories stayed with me. How would it feel to be locked away and forgotten by society? And how would it feel to be released back into that society, especially at such a festive time of year?

I love writing about heroines with unusual careers, women who carve their place in male-dominated worlds--whether in the financial services industry (Playing It Close) or as an airline pilot (Tempting the Player). So when I got my contract to write for Montana Born Books, I knew I wanted to write about a female locomotive engineer. I had no idea at the time that she would also be a parolee who would fall for her arresting officer. Bringing Lacey and Austin together presented me with a huge challenge, but I've been so touched (and relieved!) by readers' responses.

A wonderful festive romance

2015 has seen Kat Latham become one of my go-to authors. I just know that when I pick one of her books up I’m not going to be left disappointed and Three Nights Before Christmas reinforces this.

"There's no officer here. No criminal. Just Austin and Lacey..."

I have to say I wasn’t quite sure how a romance between Lacey Gallagher and Austin Wilder would work; after all he played a part in her ending up spending three miserable years in prison, how do you go from that to lovers? But Kat Latham did make it work and crafted a wonderful festive romance focusing on forgiveness and understanding.

"...I see you, Lacey."

Perfectly paced, the romance was enchanting, steamy, emotional and Lacey and Austin were a couple to love. She’s no wallflower, her time inside may have ended her career as a successful train engineer but her strength of determination to move on with her life and start again was quite humbling, as was Austin’s realisations as to the mistakes and assumptions he may have made in the past.

"You're a dirty-minded sex-fiend."

If a festive feel-good, steamy read is what you’re looking for, then this ticks the boxes. And with Lacey’s brother and her lawyer featuring throughout, it’s onto Sarah Mayberry’s His Christmas Gift for me to see what lies in store for them.

Three Nights Before Christmas, by Kat Latham, is another wonderful example of her ability to wrap you up in a story and Christmas spirit. The characters, situations, and the sexual tension keep drawing you deeper and deeper into the novel. Lacey Gallagher, just out of prison and still reeling from loving and trusting the wrong man, is working at her family's tree farm at Christmas. Helping harvest trees on Forest Service land, she continues to run into Austin Wilder, the Forest Service officer who was instrumental in her drug conviction. Their initial interactions are heated due to their history, but it soon has an underlying sexual tension that cannot be ignored. Throw into the mix Christmas, an antique steam engine named Lucinda, and family dynamics and well, the story just gets better and better. As the steam engine gets put back together, so too does Lacey's life. The main characters are complex and interesting. And, meeting back up with Gabriel, Molly, and Josh, from Ms. Latham's book Bound To The Bachelor was an added bonus. Kat Latham has once again written a wonderful story that touches the heart and definitely excites the libido! I recommend this book highly and also her rugby romance novels also!

Lacey Gallagher has finally been released from prison after being convicted of a crime she didn’t really know she was involved in. Lacey had been an train engineer and got caught up with the wrong man. Her boyfriend had used her to traffic drugs but being caught with the package she couldn’t convince a jury she hadn’t known what was going on and her boyfriend Dave had testified it had all been her idea.

Austin Wilder was the officer that had arrested Lacey three years ago. When he runs into her after her release he immediately distrusts her and begins checking up on her quite often. When Austin has a problem with restoring a steam engine train before Christmas he turns to Lacey for help.

I have to admit I was a bit on the fence with this one all the way through. Lacey’s story was one that a lot of woman or even men in some cases could relate to, maybe not to the extent of prison time but in trusting someone so completely but being let down and ending up feeling used that I couldn’t help but wish the best for her.

Austin on the other hand seemed quite the jerk in the beginning of this. Even if Lacey had been completely guilty of her crime she had done her time and he really didn’t need to keep harassing her when she first was released. A part of me kept wondering why in the world Lacey would even be attracted to someone who couldn’t give her a bit of trust at all. I think I would’ve believed the attraction between the two more if Austin had come to Lacey saying ok you did your time let me help you get your life back and offer you a job working on this train and the relationship sparked from some sort of niceness on his part.

Also, I picked this one up thinking it was a small town Christmas cozy romance but it got a bit graphic in the sex and language. There’s romantic steamy and there’s erotic steamy and this one with the language and details fell more to the erotic side which isn’t necessarily bad but felt it should be mentioned as it isn’t overly obvious with the description or what one would expect from a cozy Christmas tale.

Kids love finding the hidden duck on each page!

Love these books. They have lots of rhyming words for the kids to sound out. The stories are cute. Each page has a little duck hiding that can make reluctant readers excited to turn the page and find the duck.
Cons They are a little too long for a true beginner. My son is a very beginner reader who I am teaching to read at home. These books were about 3 pages too long for him. I switched to bob books so my son could read most of the book by himself. I will bring these back out when he had gotten a little used to reading books mostly by himself.

This is the perfect primer for ultrasound use in the ICU by non-radiologists/cardiologists. It provides an unbiased, non-commercial view of the technology and what is important (and what is not!). Excellent illustrations and image captures complement an easy to read text. I call it a must have for Critical Care physicians who are interested in learning how ultrasound at the bedside improves patient management and safety.

Although i very much admire the work and pioneering spirit that Dr. Liechtenstein is conquering new frontires, i must admit that book is not that well, written.
Dont get me wrong: the topic is super-hot, very useful, but the book not exceptionaly clear or paedagogic. Maybe an USA-minded CO-author would help to present, the very important concepts presented in this book, more clearly.
All in all, still very desired book, and I feel happy to have bought it!

sweet story

The story line was good. Hebe liked her boss Nick. They spent one steamy night together. Hebe had stars in her eyes thinking it was love. Nick acted like a jerk the next day, and Hebe walked away. I did like that Nick figured out Hebe was pregnant 6 weeks later, and it was Hebe who was shocked. Nick was a jerk at the beginning of the story but he came around. This ended up to be a very sweet book, with some twist and turns along the way. I wasn’t drawn to the characters the way I had hoped I would be. The story itself didn’t feel real. If you like a good romantic fantasy, then I’m sure you will enjoy this one.

i have read this a few times since i bought this and it still helps pass the time when im tossing and turning in bed. i do wish the story was a little longer or maybe know more about what happens after but other than that it was good

About the Author
Andrea Lunsford, Louise Hewlett Nixon Professor of English emerita and former Director of the Program in Writing and Rhetoric at Stanford University, joined the Stanford faculty in 2000. Prior to this appointment, Lunsford was Distinguished Professor of English at The Ohio State University (1986-2000). She has also been Associate Professor and Director of Writing at the University of British Columbia (1977-86). Currently a member of the faculty of the Bread Loaf School of English, Professor Lunsford earned her B.A. and M.A. degrees from the University of Florida and completed her Ph.D. in English at The Ohio State University (1977).
Professor Lunsford's scholarly interests include contemporary rhetorical theory, women and the history of rhetoric, collaboration and collaborative writing, current cultures of writing, intellectual property and composing, style, and technologies of writing. She has written or coauthored many books, including Essays on Classical Rhetoric and Modern Discourse; Singular Texts/Plural Authors: Perspectives on Collaborative Writing; and Reclaiming Rhetorica: Women in the History of Rhetoric, as well as numerous chapters and articles. For Bedford/St. Martin’s, she is the author of The St. Martin's Handbook, The Everyday Writer, EasyWriter, and Writing in Action; the co-author (with John Ruszkiewicz) of Everything’s an Argument and (with John Ruszkiewicz and Keith Walters) of Everything’s an Argument with Readings; and the co-author (with Lisa Ede) of Writing Together: Collaboration in Theory and Practice.
Professor Lunsford has conducted workshops on writing and program reviews at dozens of North American universities, served as Chair of the Conference on College Composition and Communication, as Chair of the Modern Language Association Division on Writing, and as a member of the MLA Executive Council.
John J. Ruszkiewicz is a professor at the University of Texas at Austin where he has taught literature, rhetoric, and writing for more than thirty-five years. A winner of the President’s Associates Teaching Excellence Award, he was instrumental in creating the Department of Rhetoric and Writing in 1993 and directed the unit from 2001-05. He has also served as president of the Conference of College Teachers of English (CCTE) of Texas, which gave him its Frances Hern�ndez Teacher—Scholar Award in 2012. For Bedford/St. Martin's, he is coauthor, with Andrea Lunsford, of Everything’s An Argument; coauthor, with Jay T. Dolmage, of How to Write Anything with Readings; and the author of How To Write Anything and A Reader's Guide to College Writing.
Keith Walters is professor of applied linguistics at Portland State University. Much of his research focuses on language and identity in North Africa, especially Tunisia, and the United States. He has also taught freshman composition and English as a second/foreign language.
