The character qualities you need to obtain and have wealth

Stovall is a self-made millionaire and he wants you to be one too. This book is not a “how to,” though. It is about the principles of wealth – what kind of a person you need to be to get it and who you need to be when you have it.

He reminds you that money is a tool. It represents choices. The actual money is not the issue, he says. It's not the number of zeros in your bank balance. “If you have the money you need to do all of the things you want in your life, you are financially successful...” (20)

Some of his suggestions are straightforward and practical. Get rid of debt. Establish an emergency fund. Live on a budget. Don't try to impress others with your wealth. He also gives the character qualities you must have. Persistence. Focus. The ability to try again if you fail your first time.

His actual means for obtaining your wealth may surprise you. It puts all the responsibility on you to choose the actual vehicle. But he gives you lots of help at the book's web site.

Reading this book will not guarantee you'll become a millionaire. It will help you understand how it is done and what kind of person you need to be to become one.

Practical advice

I just read Jim Stovall's new book The Millionaire Map. Having had the good fortune of hearing Stovall speak recently, I knew what a powerful presenter he was. Thus, I was eager to see if he communicated as well in writing as he does in person.

The Millionaire Map does not disappoint. Stovall's prose is quite accessible, and the book is an easy read. In The Millionaire Map Stovall imparts the lessons he has learned over the years in climbing out of poverty to wealth. (Stovall would be quick to add that the poverty he overcame was 1st world, not 3rd world, but when someone has to take a loaf of bread out of the grocery cart at the checkout line and put it back on the shelf - as Stovall did - because he didn't have enough money to his name to pay for it, that counts as poverty.)

The Millionaire Map includes an appropriate mix of Stovall's personal experiences with general principles applicable to everyone. Stovall's advice is practical, and in The Millionaire Map he pulls off what good writers aspire to - educating while he entertains.

Wise Counsel and Humble Advice on Financial Success

The Millionaire Map is an explanation from firsthand experience of the nuts and bolts in becoming financially successful, while practicing wise stewardship. Mr. Stovall helps the reader want to focus and persevere, by his sharing of personal stories, along with his words of encouragement about potential roadblocks.

As a financial consultant with a background in biblical financial principles, I am familiar with some of the advice (such as children and wealth, and the need for mentors) but found it powerful to see this wisdom in one place in a short, readable form.

About the Author
W. James Popham,��professor emeritus at the UCLA Graduate School of Education and Information Studies, began his career as a high school teacher in Oregon and then moved to the University of California at Los Angeles, where for nearly 30 years�he taught courses in instructional methods for prospective teachers as well as courses in evaluation and measurement for graduate students. At UCLA he won several distinguished teaching awards and�was recognized by UCLA Today as one of UCLA’s top 20 professors of the twentieth century. � The author of more than 30 books and hundreds of scholarly papers, Dr. Popham is�a former president of the American Educational Research Association and the recipient of the National Council on Measurement in Education Award for Career Contributions to Educational Measurement.

This book should be required reading for every teacher!

I purchased this book because it was required for an assessment class in my graduate studies. However, I wish it had been required reading before I began my teaching career. Difficult concepts are written with humor and in easy to understand language. What teachers really need to know about assessment is spelled out clearly by the author. It will be a go-to resource for constructing my own classroom assessments, as well as when I want to analyze assessments created by others. I highly recommend every classroom teacher read it and add it to their resource library.

good info to know as a parent of soon to be teenager

this is a book full of info! i have an 11 soon to be 12 year old and this is a must read for parent. it is required text in my graduate school and did i say it had plenty of useful info in it. BUT the author is hard to follow, his vocabulary is just over my head. i highlight words i dont know or understand and just write the meaning in the margins. almost one on ever page or two. but still with that you still get the picture. really i believe it will make you look at your younger or soon to be teenager different and i also think it will make you think twice about how to react to many situations. author just needs one of these in a dummy version.

A Textbook that Isn't Dry or Boring

For the first time, I have actually found myself laughing at a text book. I remember, dear reader, thinking the same thing - "it's a text book. It cannot possibly be funny." Well, if you are a sucker for good puns and lighthearted presentation of material, then you will enjoy this text. I am finding the information presented in a clear and easily understood manner, a testament to the author who clearly is an expert in this field. The information is current, up to date, and takes into consideration that teachers are people too. The advice is practical and I am sure that I will find myself referring back to this in the years to come!

About the Author
Alicia Gibb is an advocate for open hardware, a researcher, and a hardware hacker. Alicia has worked within the open source hardware community since 2008. She is the founder and Executive Director of the Open Source Hardware Association (OSHWA), an organization to educate and promote building and using open source hardware. She directs the BTU Lab at CU Boulder, where she teaches in the areas of physical computing and information technologies. Previous to serving OSHWA, Alicia was a researcher and prototyper at Bug Labs where she ran the academic research program and the Test Kitchen, an open R&D Lab. She was awarded a National Science Foundation SBIR grant for her sensor-based data collection module while at Bug Labs. She is a member of NYCResistor, where she has curated two international art shows, founded and co-chaired two Open Hardware Summits, and sits on the board of the Ada Initiative. Her electronics work has appeared in Wired magazine, IEEE Spectrum, Hackaday and the New York Times . When Alicia is not researching at the crossroads of open technology and innovation she is prototyping work that twitches, blinks, and might even be tasty to eat.

Great overview, but lacks a little in substance. Odds are, if you're buying this book, you know what open source means and the benefits, and you are looking for more substantial information on actual design and manufacturing tips. Not stories about open source companies.

Excellent Resource

Alicia and the team of expert contributors to this book offer a great cross-section of knowledge to help people navigate the waters of open source hardware. The entire book is intriguing and needed to be written in my opinion. We will see how this whole movement pans out, but the book is honest about the snapshot it takes towards open source hardware. I think everyone starting out in electronics ought to give this a read.

This book is one you can judge by it's cover. It is everything you need to know about how to work on an open hardware project from cradle to grave. It is a solidly researched book that doesn't skip an issue because it is hard, nor is all the content from one person or organization. This has produced a product which is informative to a degree that it is greater than the sum of it's parts.

Fair warning: No matter how fast you read, do not expect to churn through this one in a day or two. It is dense information which while invaluable, will take a bit to correlate and digest. Take the time to do so; it is well worth the effort. Consider this book professional development for the hardware maker regardless of specific area of skill or interest.

This book will occupy a prominent place on my bookshelf as a reference guide, and I am no noob in the movement. I have several open hardware projects under my belt, having presented these at several maker faires I was able to attend. One of my projects is even mentioned in the book (Ground Sphere satellite ground station receiver, pp 142). My point is that in spite of my experience, I learned a lot from the work that Alicia Gibb clearly put into this masterpiece.

If you are involved in the open hardware movement in any aspect, or intend to be, you cannot do without this book. Not only does it contain all the information you need, including checklists in the back, it also contains a list of additional sources that read like a who's who of the movement and companies you need to have on speed dial.

About the Author
CHARLES WADDELL CHESNUTT (1858-1932) was born in Cleveland, Ohio. He drew on his experiences as a biracial American to address racial passing in his classic novel "The House Behind the Cedars," Earning a living as a court stenographer and lawyer, Chesnutt supported a writing career that included the publication of numerous short stories and the completion of several other novels, some of which were considered too incendiary to be printed during his time. An active integrationist and civil rights leader, he was awarded a medal by the NAACP for distinguished literary contributions.

A STORY OF LOVE, LOYALTY AND SURVIVAL

This story is beautifully written. Mr. Chestnutt carefully presents the two different worlds of light-skinned educated blacks and dark-skinned uneducated blacks. He shows how for both groups the Reconstruction era meant an unclear identity. He also shows how both groups are victims of circumstance, but that truth, love, and fidelity can over come those circumstances. I liked this book because as an African-American I know about the "color" problem among our people. I also liked it because it was a true love story and a tear jerker. I suggest you read it aloud to a literary group. It's a wonderful story.

Great book for fun or a course on Reconstruction

I enjoyed all of the stories in this collection, and shared them with my teenagers. They depict with wit, tenderness and irony identity crises of African Americans during and after Reconstruction, and the racism that persisted in both North and South. They read like a mixture of Mark Twain and Harriet Beecher Stowe with a touch of Jane Austen.

Unexpected Brilliance

This book surprised me. For a short book the characters are well written and developed in my opinion. I also enjoyed the fact that it was free of typical stereotypes you tend to run into with this type of subject matter. The characters own their emotions, granted indecision and surprise is exhibited amongst the characters in terms to their reactions to things but their were no stupid stereotypical "I CANT BE GAY" freak outs. For me this made the relationship more realistic and genuine. The story is simple really, one character needs something the other can provide and offers himself in exchange. The intensity of the feelings that develop is what really makes the story great because that's when both main characters go through a drastic change, which again made me feel like this could totally be real life happening right now to someone as I write this review. I like this author, it is straight to the point cut out the bulls*** writing.

I'm a little bit twisted now

Minor spoilers.

This is my perfect kind of book for two primary reasons: 1) the main character (Derek) is a gruff, mean, SOB on the outside who is really actually sweet and caring on the inside (but he'll never show it); 2) he doesn't change and that's the best part. I've seen many books with main characters like Derek who start off mean and reserved and end up all mushy and romantic but not Derek he's quiet and always frowning and glaring and the fact that he doesn't change makes me love him even more.

Maybe I'm a little bit twisted.

Anyway, Shawn is too sweet for his own good, as a gay romance lover nothing hits my sweet spot better than a straight guy realizing he is actually gay/bi (Derek and I have that in common). And the way Shawn takes care of his sisters is icing on the cake (and I'm going back for seconds cause I can't stop rereading!).

Totally loved the book, loved the romance, loved the chemistry, loved the fact that it was a short read (I like to get to my HEA sooner rather than later).

Overall: Amazing.

Oh, and if you haven't read the short story that comes before this one (Straight Boy) you totally should cause Sage and Xavier are probably my favorite characters in this series!

Just a bit different

From the description, I wasn't sure if I would like this book, as it seems to scream non-consensual (which just weirds me out). However, I hope I'm not spoiling anything but saying that this is not a theme in the book, as both are consenting adults. This book is HOT HOT HOT! The chemistry between Derek and Shawn is palpable, and slowly both characters grew on me. The story progressed differently than I thought it would, and I appreciate the subtle and realistic changes in the main characters. This is definitely NOT an overly sappy book, and it's clear that love doesn't magically transform the characters into someone totally different.

My only complaint is that the ending feels a little bit rushed. Still, so far it is my favorite book in the series. I am looking forward to reading more books by this author.
