Looking for the perfect light machine gun...

The small arms debate goes on, year by year and conflict by conflict, especially with respect to machine guns. This reviewer remembers wrestling with the ungainly M240 squad machine gun, which fired a 7.62 round. More recently, the U.S. Army and Marine Corps, and their NATO allies, have used variants of the FN Minimi light machine gun, designated in the U.S. as the M249. The M249 has the virtue of being operable by one soldier. It fires the 5.56 round, of which more may be carried. But this is not the end of the discussion...
"The FN Minimi Light Machine Gun" is an Osprey Weapon Series book, authored by Chris McNabb, with illustrations by Johnny Shumate and Alan Gilliland.
